OnTuesday April 16th we joined Ash class in Mayfield library for a Cork Lifelong Learning festival event with Anyone4Science.

We made force meters and tested the strength of jelly sweets. We learned about pulling forces, fair testing, repeatable and reliable testing and how incredibly strong jelly sweets are!

We noticed that for each 100mls of water that we added to our meter it stretched the jelly by 0.5cm.

The whole school had a wonderful day at Funderland today (11.04.24). Great fun was had by everybody. Thank you to the lovely staff there!

We enjoyed another day gardening at CDP where we planted pea and sunflower seeds. The soil came in dry biscuit like discs and we had great fun adding water and watching them expand into soil!

We made our Mother’s Day cards from toilet roll inserts and tissue paper. We used half a cardboard cup for the pots. We had great fun doing them and think they turned out really well! Lucky Mums!

Wednesday February 28th

We enjoyed gardening again today with Mayfield Community Development Program. We made bugs with Killian using egg cartons and pipe cleaners and then filled them with soil and planted cress seeds. Then we did some weeding and Alan unearthed a huge tree stump!

Happy 10th Birthday Ava!

The recent cold weather brought fun to our time in the school yard!

We had a visitor to class recently and enjoyed playing games with her.

6 members of Beech class joined the school choir and had a wonderful day when we sang at The Cork Opera House on January 18th. We joined Karen Underwood and sang St. Killian’s school anthem (Together We’re Stronger) and ‘Snow is Falling’ in front of a packed house!

We were very excited to get the bus into the city straight from school for our dress rehearsal. We even had our own cool dressing room!

We always love to have our photo taken with Bonnie or Rosie. In this photo it’s Bonnie!

Santa and Mrs. Claus came to visit! We all sang Christmas songs, had a great chat (Santa told us we were all on the nice list!) and then Santa face us all a present. Mrs. Claus said they were very tired from all their hard work this year and she is looking forward to their holiday in Lanzarote!

We’ve been busy painting our windows for Christmas!

We always enjoy gardening every week with Liz and Killian at CDP, Mayfield. And of course the treat they give us after! Thanks Guys!

We had great fun learning all about the Solar System during Science week and making this 3D Solar System.

Weeding again this week at CDP. We’re loving it!

Happy birthday Jean and Rory!

Happy Halloween everyone! We had a fun day dressing up, playing games (apple bobbing) and had a great Halloween party!

We were very happy to weed and prepare a bed for the seed bombs we made last week! We all worked really hard.

Jaydan was determined not to let the biggest root get the better of him! He removed it after a lot of hard work and was delighted to realise it looks like Harry Potters wand! Good job Halloween is only a week away Jaydan!

Can you figure me out with these Maths sums? Answers are under the post its!

We made ghosts from toilet paper!

Happy 10th birthday J!

We really enjoyed making Irish wildflower seed bombs with Mayfield Community Development Program. Our plants are all coming along well too!

October 3rd - We had a great time at Forest School today with Ms. O’Connor. We learned how to safely use a wood saw and cut some wooden discs which we will make into something exciting next week!

We went gardening to CDP Mayfield again on Friday September 22nd. We planted radish seeds with Cillian and can’t wait to see them grow! Then we did more weeding and cleared a raised bed completely ready for planting.

Of course Liz had bought our favourite treat for afterwards - double chocolate Oreos!! Thanks Liz, you’re the best!

Painting these colourful umbrellas and gluing on our photos made us very happy!

We enjoyed doing these Peg Board patterns, following a specific pattern set out out for us. After we had the pattern made we were able to make what ever pattern or picture we wanted.

In September Mayfield Integrated Community Development Project invited us to help them with gardening. We were delighted to help out and were surprised by the wide range of vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers that are growing there! We started with weeding and learned a lot about the different names of plants and which were weeds and which were not to be pulled! The roots were very long and tough to pull but we were tougher! We had great fun and hope to return to help out again. Especially as we had some lovely treats after!
